Buy NowA modified version of Art Deco lettering found on a Columbia Pictures promotional publication from July 9, 1935 is the basis for Film Stars JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.
This condensed monoline type design bears a distant resemblance to Huxley Vertical, but has its own set of unique characteristics. One possible application is for retro-influenced movie poster cast and crew listings.
The modification made to the original hand lettered design was the removal of extended crossbars on many of the characters which would have played havoc with spacing and kerning. What may have worked well in a custom lettering job of the past with variable word and character spacing might look awkward in today's conventional digital typesetting.
