View Purchase OptionsRemarque was inspired by the logo for The Persuaders!, a British television series starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore as ill-matched adventurers. Initially broadcast on ITV and ABC in 1971, it was produced by the inimitable Lew Grade for ITC Entertainment.
The logo is based on a typeface called Dreamline, published as part of Mecanorma’s rub-down lettering range in 1969. This in turn was inspired by the lettering found on posters by Alfred Roller, a Vienna Secession artist and designer working in the early 1900s. These curvilinear Art Nouveau forms again found favour in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Remarque is not a faithful revival but takes the underlying structure and irons out some of the ambiguities in the source material, straightening counters and curves and tapering uprights. The result is a playful modern compact font with many alternate characters and a set of interlocking ligatures.
A set of tiled abstract shapes are also included, available from the Glyphs palette. These can be used as decorative extras or repeated to generate patterns.
Stylish, lively and bold, it lends itself to packaging, merchandise, confectionery and posters.
