Wyvern is for situations where monospaced typography communicates the right world but creates the wrong typography.

Its origins lie in a commission for something related to Letter Gothic but proportionally spaced and distinctly different. That starting point left Wyvern with the clipped, functional atmosphere of typed technical material while freeing it from the equal-width grid. It can suggest reports, instrumentation, procedures and recorded information without making every paragraph look like source code or a typewriter transcript.

That makes Wyvern especially useful for test and measurement equipment, industrial automation and technical documentation. Oscilloscopes, calibration instruments, environmental sensors, laboratory analyzers, machine-vision systems and robotics all generate product names, datasheets, application notes, service guides and trade-show graphics that need an engineering character without the bulk and rigidity of a monospace. A true monospaced companion can still handle readings, code and aligned tables where equal character widths perform an actual job.

Engineering reports, inspection findings, infrastructure studies and maintenance documents offer a similar fit. Wyvern can handle report titles, section headings, project identifiers, captions and short explanatory passages while retaining a trace of typed procedural documentation. Cybersecurity and digital-forensics reports benefit for the same reason: the type feels analytical and recorded without slipping into familiar hacker imagery.

The italics bring considerably more movement than the restrained uprights, making them useful for model names and emphatic display text. Wyvern Ink, Steel and Blocko extend the family into rougher procedural graphics, evidence displays and fictional case-file material.

Wyvern keeps the technical character of a typewritten sans-serif while removing the spacing constraint that made sense for the machine. The result is better suited to information that needs to look recorded, measured and procedural while still being comfortably read.
