Llandru

For years, computer hardware tried to disappear. Storage moved into the cloud, ports vanished, and devices became smooth sealed slabs. Llandru comes from an earlier relationship with computing, when floppy disks, removable drives and cartridges gave technology a visible physical grammar. That once-obsolete reference now gives the typeface an unexpected place among computers that are becoming objects again.

Its wide, squared forms suggest slots, housings, removable modules and molded electronic parts rather than pixels or terminal text. That makes Llandru particularly effective when lettering is attached to a machine: a project name on a cyberdeck enclosure, a badge on a custom portable computer, a model designation on a storage device or a label built into a 3D-printed case.

Cyberdecks, Raspberry Pi builds and other one-off hardware projects are especially natural territory. Llandru can handle machine names, enclosure badges, boot titles and project graphics without relying on monospaced terminals or cyberpunk warning labels; its geometry feels closer to the hardware itself.

Portable SSDs, card readers, backup drives and drive enclosures bring the original inspiration full circle. Home NAS systems and personal servers extend the same idea to larger equipment: machines built specifically to keep data somewhere physical and visible.

Transparent, modular and repairable electronics provide another useful setting. Open-hardware kits, upgradeable handhelds, small-batch gadgets and devices with exposed internal structure can use Llandru for product identities and packaging, while makerspaces and hardware labs can carry the same language into project walls, equipment zones and workshop graphics.

Llandru began with the physical vocabulary of removable computer hardware. Its useful territory now is tangible computing: cyberdecks, portable storage, personal servers, repairable electronics and other machines designed to be carried, opened, modified, upgraded or simply noticed.
