Albanita is a set of new fonts that give a sense of history, without a specific reference to a time or place. These were indirectly inspired by the city of Albany, New York, my hometown for over 30 years. Albany has a distinctive look and character that has often influenced my work, and that I’ve deliberately tried to capture here, if not literally.
Albany includes many remarkable historic and modern buildings and an overall design that encompasses 4 centuries. Referencing a woodtype font, I created a squarish geometric structure which became Albanita Sans. Albanita, the serif font, includes shapes from interior and exterior moldings, a loving pastiche of historic ornament. Both are available in 3 weights.
